Imagine a Turkish show that takes a leaf out of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde then adds a really creative edge to the story which twists and turns but has a real truth and heart to it. Don’t stop there but sprinkle in a quirkiness which reminded me of Belgian shows. Dark humour abounds along with farce and surreal moments. I had several “I should not be laughing at this because it’s SO wrong” moments… but I still laughed aloud!
The cast in this are very impressive and the central performance of Erdal Besikçioglu is phenomenal, showing enormous range. Saygin Soysal (Black Money Love, The Protector) will be a familiar face to many along with Turkish-British actress Yasemin Kay Allen (Strike Back, The Magnificent Century). There are a lot of damaged characters in this with difficult pasts and issues, not everything just revolves around the main character.
46 Yok Olan is a show that is not afraid to raise ethical questions alongside scenes which are sometimes so bizarre you just have to laugh out loud. There is a running “burial by the greenhouse” gag which gets funnier and funnier.
This is a more than slightly crazy show which has great cinematography and music. It will make you laugh, and quite possibly cry.
I can unreservedly recommend 46 Yok Olan as being enormously entertaining and fun but not without those hard messages too. I absolutely LOVED this.
