Bite-Sized Review:
8 Days is not for the faint-hearted with lots of sex and nudity, profanity, violence and gore with frightening, intense scenes and some drug use.
I loved this! The thing that stuck with me is from the trailer: what would you do when faced with a cataclysmic event like this where you had 8 days left to live: Build a bunker? Run? Search for God? Play God? Each episode is one day in the story.
In many ways this has the feel of an indie, arthouse film and is a very visually impressive show ~ the cinematography is just beautiful ~ and the original score is stunning:
8 Days has a great cast, including Mark Waschke (Dark), Christiane Paul (Counterpoint), Lena Klenke (How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)), Nora von Waldstätten (The Crimson Rivers) David Schütter (Barbarians) and Murathan Muslu (Skylines, Helen Dorn).
This show can boast some impressive character development as it explores the very worst, and best, of human nature when survival becomes the main drive. You see loathsome, self-absorbed cowardice set against true heroism and self-sacrifice. People do make stupid decisions because… that is exactly what people do when under stress. There are lots of shades of grey… And some parts are very emotionally charged.
Highly recommended.
